5 reasons I adore hosting art workshops
Creating Wondrous Workshops has given me the time to reflect on many of the reasons why workshops have become one of the most fulfilling parts of my studio practice.
Maybe they’ll help inspire you to also consider sharing the love of your craft, because I really do wish more makers and artists would!
Here’s why I love hosting workshops:
1. Art makes the world a better place
The more people expressing themselves and their feelings in creative ways, connecting with their hands, and appreciating handmade craft, the better our world becomes.
2. Workshop participants often become clients
There’s something beautiful about this cycle… people learn a new appreciation for pottery and handmade items in my workshops, and they’re then more likely to want to bring my work into their homes (and pay the prices that reflect the work and experience level that goes into them).
3. It’s meaningful community outreach
Sharing knowledge and creating nourishing gatherings makes my heart really happy. It’s a way of giving back while doing what I love.
4. It’s another income stream that doesn’t require more physical products
This one’s huge for those of us who love making but recognize our bodies and time have limits. Workshops let me earn similarly to a big batch of pottery without the physical demand of production work. It’s a way to diversify my income, which is helpful to both my body and my business.
5. I get to create the workshops I wish existed
You know those truly delightful creative gatherings that many of us (especially those of us who are introverted) daydream about attending? Hosting art workshops lets me bring those daydreams to life.
If you’ve been curious about teaching your own art workshop but just find yourself overwhelmed or needing a gentle and supportive nudge, my upcoming program “Wondrous Workshops” might help! Join the waitlist for first dibs and early bird delights when doors open soon.
I’d also love to invite you to join my fortnightly “Letters to a Maker” email list, where I share the ins and outs and behind the scenes of my studio business, including about teaching workshops.
