Episode 7: Handling The Unexpected

No matter how well you plan your art workshop, something unexpected will inevitably come up.  Part of growing as a facilitator is learning to adapt in the moment and trusting that you can handle whatever arises.  In this episode I share initial reflections from hosting my workshop, including how I found scheduling affects my facilitation, gaps in my outline, and strategies for recovering when the unexpected happens.

Reflection Questions

What's your biggest fear about something going wrong during your workshop? What would help you feel more prepared and confident to handle it if it does arise?

What level of detail do you think your workshop outline needs?  Are you the type who will remember to do the "obvious" things, or would you benefit from writing down the basics?

If something doesn't go as planned during your workshop, think about what would best help you recover in the moment? Would it help to acknowledge it out loud? Pause and take a breath? Have a backup plan written down? What would make you feel steadier?
