Slab Mug Workshop

  • Gather (Haida Gwaii) 223 Oceanview Drive Daajing Giids, BC, V0T 1S0 Canada (map)

Because drinks just taste better from a mug that you made yourself…

Join me for a cozy evening of muddy hands!

We will use slabs of stoneware clay to make a mug, using texture to express and explore our creativity.

  • We’ll spend the workshop in the warm and welcoming Gather restaurant.

    The space has:

    • one single stall, gender neutral bathroom

    • wide, sturdy, armless chairs

    • a wheelchair accessible entry ramp

  • This workshop is open for complete beginners to pottery. It is suitable for ages 16+.

  • We’ll start by going over the basics of the ceramic process and then tackling the handbuilding of our mugs.

There will be beverages and an array of food available to enjoy as we work.

Once the clay has set up a bit, handles will be added, edges softened, and finishing touches completed.

Our time together will finish around 9pm.

Once the mugs have completely dried, I will fire them twice and glaze them your choice of translucent glaze.

Your piece should be ready within 4-6 weeks of the workshop, and will be available for pickup at my studio (or shipped for an additional charge).

    • Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting muddy

    • Items to create texture eg. foliage, lace, stamps (optional, I’ll have some on hand as well)

    • Craft apron (optional)

  • $150/PERSON* INCLUDES:

    • 2 hours of facilitated studio time, which also includes all materials to make and decorate one slab mug, as well as the two kiln firings and glazing necessary to complete your piece.
